The Center for Exceptional healthcare has developed to meet the urgent need for excellent healthcare services for individuals with disabilities. Thirty years ago, many people with congenital or acquired disabilities didn’t live more than a few years. Those who did survive were often locked away in institutions. If they got healthcare at all it was by specialized doctors who worked for the
institution.
Today, nearly all individuals with disabilities can expect to live long and productive lives in the community. But the medical community has not caught up with this reality. Very few healthcare providers have training or experience in meeting the healthcare needs of individuals with disabilities. Moreover, while virtually every doctor’s of•ce these days is wheel chair accessible, very few have taken the next steps to remove all the architectural, communication and attitudinal barriers necessary to enable individuals with disabilities to get the care they need in order to achieve their healthcare goals.
Here at CEHC we’re doing all we can to overcome these barriers. Our providers are recognized nation-wide for their expertise in meeting the common and unique healthcare needs of individuals with disabilities.
