Maternal Child Health Services
The goal of the maternal child health services department is to improve the health of pregnant and lactating women and their newborns. Dedicated members of the MCPN HealthCorps team provide key education and support services, which complement the medical care received by MCPN patients.
Education and Support services are available at the three MCPN clinics that provide obstetrics (OB) care:
- North Aurora Family Health Services – 3292 Peoria Street, Aurora, CO 80010
- Englewood – 3515 S. Delaware Street, Englewood, CO 80013
- Jeffco – 8500 W. Colfax Avenue, Lakewood, CO 80215
New OB Education (group based sessions)
- For pregnant women (first visit to MCPN after confirmed pregnancy)
- Topics: how to plan a healthy pregnancy; labor and delivery; postpartum care for Mom and baby; breastfeeding and baby care basics.
- 1.5 group visits includes above education, OB labs (when indicated), sonograms (when indicated) and medical visit with a provider.
- Sessions available in Spanish and English
Gestational Diabetes Education
- Available Monday through Thursday (page HealthCorps member)
- For pregnant women diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes (trimester 1, 2 and 3).
- Patients can meet with a diabetes educator to discuss nutrition, healthy pregnancy and gestational diabetes management.
- Sessions available in Spanish and English
Childbirth Education
- Offered monthly at each clinic; individual sessions can be scheduled as needed.
- For pregnant women and their birth partner(s) during the third trimester of pregnancy.
- Topics: nutrition/healthy pregnancy, female anatomy, signs, stages and phases of labor, birth video, immediate post partum procedures, natural labor management methods, medical labor management methods, medical interventions, c-sections, birth planning, recuperation after labor, breastfeeding basics and newborn care.
- Classes offered in Spanish and English.
Birth Coach Services
- A doula is an experienced labor companion who provides continuous emotional support and assistance before, during and after birth. Including childbirth and breastfeeding education. Doulas have been shown to shorten first time labor, decrease cesarean section and the need for pain medication, help fathers participate with confidence and leads to more successful breastfeeding.
- MCPN doula services are available to all MCPN patients and community members who meet with a doula to discuss and prepare a specific birth plan.
- To schedule a doula consultation and develop your birth plan, call 720-833-0885 ext. 121 or let your MCPN prenatal care provider know you are interested in doula services.

- Services offered in Spanish and English
Newborn Education (group based sessions)
- Englewood: Mondays 10am and Thursday 12 noon.
- Jeffco: Mondays 9am and Thursdays 9am.
- North Aurora Family Services Tuesdays 9am and Thursdays 9am.
- For newborns age 2-3 days
- Topics: information and guidance on breastfeeding, cord care, car safety, safe sleeping,crying/colic, self care for patients, feeding newborn, introduction of solid foods, normal bowel movements, newborn development, immunizations, postpartum visits, when to contact your regular doctor and how to contact MCPN.
- Two- hour visit includes above education, labs (when indicated), immunization (when indicated), breastfeeding consult (if desired) and a medical visit with a MCPN health care provider.
- Session available in Spanish and English.
Breastfeeding Education and Support
- Breastfeeding classes are available monthly at each clinic.
- New Mom’s can also schedule one to one breastfeeding sessions with a breastfeeding educator.
- Breastfeeding support and counseling is available for mothers who experience common breastfeeding problems such as, sore nipples, latch on problems and milk supply concerns.
- Resources and referrals for breast shields, breast pumps or a breast pump loan programs are available.
