HealthCorps members serve within four basic program areas:
Health and Wellness Educators– facilitate Diabetes management classes, facilitate support groups and education sessions including clinical group visits, smoking cessation and gestational diabetes. Other positions work specifically with teen education and pregnancy prevention in local high schools.
School Based Health – teach a variety of health and nutrition classes in elementary school based clinic sites, including Health Nuts curriculum and childhood obesity prevention projects.
Homeless Outreach Team– set appointments for medical and financial needs of homeless patients, provide resources for families such as housing assistance, job referrals, food and clothing donations, etc.
Maternal Child Health Educators– provide prenatal education, childbirth classes, provide birth coach services
All applicants must meet standard AmeriCorps eligibility requirements as well as the following:
- Strong interest in medical outreach and services
- Conversational Spanish skills highly recommended
- Strong facilitation skills
- Ability to work well in a team and individually
Program Year: September-August, 11 months and 1700 hours of service
Applications due: June 15
